Maybe you should have left 30 minutes ago

With the beautiful fall weather a welcome reprieve, or at least a delaying of the inevitable, let me offer a suggestion. Take a moment to look up.

Notice today as folks pass you along the sidewalk. Most people walk with their eyes looking down, watching where their feet tread. Occasionally you might make eye contact with a passerby and offer an acknowledgment. But rare is the case do you see someone looking up, and if you do, you might wonder what it is they are looking at.

It takes more effort to look upward as you move along, because it requires you to slow down. If not, you may run into something. It’s hard to multi-task when you are absorbing Nature. She has a subtle way of demanding your attention.

Don’t convince yourself you are too busy to take note of the flickering flames in the maple trees, or the shimmering steel canopy we label as blue sky. Do you really need to be in such a hurry?
